Reading a College Basketball Point Spread
A point spread evens out mismatched matchups by giving the underdog a virtual head start. If Duke is -8.5 against UNC, Duke must win by nine or more for a spread bet on them to cash. UNC covers if they win outright or lose by fewer than nine. The half-point eliminates a push — no one ties at 8.5. Our sportsbook lists
each game's spread alongside the moneyline and total, so you can compare all three markets at a glance before the opening whistle. Line movement during the day often reflects sharp money or injury news, both of which we surface in the matchup panel.
